Ceramic grater for garlic, ginger, and much more
The ceramic grater is used, for example, to grate garlic, ginger, citrus zest, nutmeg, parmesan, or chocolate over the rough surface in the center of the dish. The grated ingredients collect directly in the grater and can easily be mixed with oil, herbs, and other ingredients for marinades, dressings, pesto, and dips.
The ceramic grater is both practical and decorative and is meant to be displayed on the kitchen counter. The hand-painted colors and patterns also make it beautiful to place directly on the table, for example with a dip, dressing, or marinade.
The graters are produced by the family-owned ceramics manufacturer Artesanía León in La Rambla, Andalusia, where the craft has been passed down through four generations since 1906.
For centuries, La Rambla has been known as one of Spain’s most important ceramics towns. Spanish ceramic craftsmanship has deep roots, and knowledge of clay, shaping, glazing, and decoration has been handed down from generation to generation. While potters originally mainly produced utilitarian items such as pitchers, jars, bowls, and dishes, over time the functional craft has merged with an artistic tradition, where vibrant colors and hand-painted patterns give each piece its own character.
Since the ceramic grater is shaped and decorated by hand, no two pieces are exactly alike. Small variations in shape, glaze, color, and brushstrokes are therefore a natural and beautiful part of the craftsmanship. After several firings at very high temperatures, the ceramics gain the strength that makes them suitable for everyday use.
