The lanterns are made from a durable, waterproof, and 100% sustainable material – Tyvek. This means the lamps can hang outside in all kinds of weather. However, I still bring them inside if it starts to get windy or rainy. Instead, I hang them in the greenhouse, where they light up beautifully when the sun goes down.

It’s pure magic when the lamps turn on one by one at dusk. Throughout the day, the solar cell at the top of the lantern absorbs energy from the sun’s rays and stores it in a rechargeable AAA battery. In the evening, the lanterns turn on automatically and switch off by themselves when there is no more energy left in the battery.

The longest lighting time is achieved in summer, when the sun is high in the sky. Then the lanterns can easily shine for seven to eight hours if they hang in a sunny spot all day. Even on a cloudy day, it is possible for the solar cells to collect energy in summer. But in this case, you should expect the lanterns not to shine as long.

In autumn and winter, when the sun is low in the sky, the lighting time is naturally minimal. On sunny days, you can expect a lighting time of about an hour or maybe two. You just have to be a bit patient!

Important: Make sure the solar panel is kept clean. If it gets dirty, charging will not be optimal, and this will cause the lantern to shine for a shorter time. I wipe the panel with a well-wrung cloth dipped in a mixture of dish soap and a little vinegar. The latter removes any limescale.

IMPORTANT

The solar lanterns are equipped with rechargeable batteries. Over time, the batteries may lose their ability to charge sufficiently, and then they need to be replaced.

It is important that the new batteries are also rechargeable batteries. They can be purchased in many places.
