When I was first introduced to these beautiful lamps, I was very captivated. They have a truly unique organic appearance, and what’s fascinating is that they are made from salt deposits found at the foot of the Himalayan mountain range. The organic shapes are naturally occurring fractures, but there are also processed shapes like cubes and spheres.
*The color tones are most often golden to orange, but there are also light to white ones. The latter are quite rare.
*The warm, subdued glow has a relaxing effect and creates a calm atmosphere—somewhat like candlelight. Many people use the lamps as a discreet light source in the bedroom or living room.
*It is said that a salt lamp can help some people relax before bedtime. The larger the lamp and the closer it is to the bed, the greater the effect.
*The salt attracts moisture from the room and thus also the pollution particles that come with it. When the particles come into contact with the salt lamp, these microscopic elements stick to the salt instead of floating around in the air where you might inhale them. This helps purify the air, and it means that the surface should occasionally be wiped with a well-wrung cloth.
*The lamp should be turned on regularly, as the heat from the bulb helps dry out the salt.
IMPORTANT: Since salt attracts moisture, it is important that the lamp is placed in a dry area (not in the bathroom or outdoors). If the lamp is placed on a delicate surface, a coaster is recommended.
