William Morris was a British craftsman, painter, writer, and social reformer, known as a central figure in the British Arts and Crafts movement. He was born on March 24, 1834, and died on October 3, 1896.
Morris was a leading designer of wallpapers, fabrics, and embroidery, and he worked to restore the medieval craft traditions that had been disrupted by industrialization. He founded the company Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. in 1861, which focused on handmade products for the home that became accessible to everyone in the growing middle class.
